Stash Hotel Rewards Card – Benefits

Let’s take a look at the benefits of the Stash Hotel Rewards card and see if it’s the right one for your wallet or not.

Sign-Up Bonus

Stash Hotel Rewards Visa card offers 10,000 bonus sign-up points after you spend $1,500 on the card within the first 90 days on eligible purchases. Those points are about a $130 value when booking hotel stays through Stash.

Points Used though Stash, Gas, Groceries, Hotels & Other Purchases

Cardholders earn 3x points for every dollar spent on the Stash network of hotels. The Stash Hotel Rewards Visa Card earns 2x points per dollar spent on gas, groceries, and non-affiliated hotels. Non-affiliated hotels can be booked through Stash and you can earn some points outside of the card by booking with Stash. Also, you’ll get 1x points per dollar spent on all other purchases.

10% Annual Bonus

All points spent during the year will earn an annual 10% bonus. That means if you redeem 20,000 points during the year, cardholders will earn 2,000 annual bonus points. This can help offset the annual fee.

No Limits or Expiration

Stash Hotel Rewards Visa card does not have any point limits or expiration of points earned.

No Foreign Transaction Fee, No Annual Fee for the First Year

Stash Hotel Rewards Visa card has no transaction fees while traveling in another country. Many other rewards cards and regular credit cards have fees when you make purchases outside of the United States. The card will not charge an annual fee for the first year of opening the card.

Juice Rewards

Become a Stash Rewards member and you can earn more points on top of your Stash Hotel Rewards Visa card. You can earn additional points when reservations are booked through Stash.com and you are a rewards member. Many hotels can offer higher points throughout the Stash network; for example, 10 points for every dollar spent on a stay at a hotel. This would be on top of the points you will earn when you book with your credit card.

Stash Hotel Rewards Card – Drawbacks

Here are the most important cons you should consider before apply to the Stash Hotel Rewards card:

Annual Fee

Stash Hotel Rewards Visa card has a large annual fee of $85. Cardholders will have to spend quite a bit to cover the annual fee.

No 0% APR Introductory Rate

Stash Hotel Rewards Visa card does not offer an introductory rate unlike many cards on the market that do. It you need or are looking for an introductory rate, you will have to look at other offerings.

There are Better Travel Reward Cards

There are other travel cards in the market that offer higher rewards. There many travel reward cards that offer better rewards on all spending not just specialty spending at Stash

Restrictions on Using Points

Points earned through the use of the Stash Hotel Rewards Visa card can only be redeemed for hotel stays through a Stash sponsored hotel. This is a very limited use for the rewards. Many other cards can be used for other types of travel, gift cards, and merchandise. There are other travel cards that allow you to use points for different vendors. When you use the points, they must cover the whole stay. You cannot, for example, use some points and then pay the card ow with cash. Some hotels have cancellation fees in which some of your points will not be returned to you.

Limited Footprint

Stash has 150 hotels in its network. That is very small and may not meet the needs of many travelers. Their footprint is very different from other large companies, such as Marriott that has 7,000 hotels across the world in its network. Most of the unique or boutique hotels represented by Stash are high-end and more pricey than other, similar offerings.

Hotels Through Other Sites

Stash Hotel Rewards Visa card does not earn points through 3rd party booking companies, such as hotels.com. Make sure to book through Stash.

Is the Stash Hotel Rewards Card Right for You?

Stash Hotel Rewards Visa card is a great hotel reward card for those who like to stay at unique luxury hotels. This card offers great rewards for those who do not mind only using points for the limited offerings from Stash. This card has average points for spending outside of Stash. There are other travel rewards cards and hotel rewards card that have similar offerings in rewards, but they are much more flexible in their use of those rewards. This card does have an annual fee which will eat into the rewards offered with the card. It does not have an introductory rate but has a more reasonable interest rate of 17.74%, which is lower than the average card on the market. This card is for customers who are loyal to Stash and do not mind the many drawbacks to the card.
