Customers can expedite the process by going to the website and logging in, providing the representative with all of their information right away. Progressive allows you to file auto claims and pay bills online.

However, many customers experienced long wait times for all three options, resulting in lower ratings.

Basic Coverage

Progressive offers the basic auto insurance options you are accustomed to. These include:

  • Liability: Foots the bills for you and other motorists when you cause an accident.
  • Collision: Repairs your car when you cause an accident.
  • Comprehensive: Covers any other damage done to your car other than a collision – like theft or fire.
  • Personal Injury Protection: Foots any medical bills and other related expenses due to a covered loss.

  • Custom parts and equipment replacement: Repairs or replaces any damaged custom car equipment like T.V.s, stereos, etc.
  • Loan-Lease Payoff: Pays for the difference in your car's value at the time of the loss and what you owe on the vehicle.
  • Pet Injury Coverage: Foots the vet bills if your pet is injured in a loss. This extra already comes with your collision coverage, so it's free.
  • Rideshare Coverage: Protects you while driving for ridesharing companies when your ridesharing app is on.
  • Deductible Savings: Reduces your deductibles by $50 every six months that you are claim-free.
  • Small accident forgiveness: Protects from rate increase after the initial accident if the first claim is less than $500.
  • Large accident forgiveness: Protects from rate increase in a loss if you’ve been accident-free for three years and are covered by Progressive for a minimum of five years.

How's Progressive Snapshot Telematics Program?

Snapshot is an app used by Progressive. Snapshot prices your insurance differently and customizes your insurance rate based on your driving history.

It keeps track of your driving records and habits, such as hard braking and speed. It also keeps track of how far you drive. After using the app for a year, your premium may change based on the number of miles you drive.

When you sign up for Snapshot®, you can choose between using the plug-in device and the mobile app. Both work similarly and offer a discount for good driving, but there are some subtle differences. Most Snapshot customers receive a discount for driving safely

Riskier driving based on these factors, on the other hand, indicates a higher likelihood of being in an accident and may result in a higher rate at renewal — depending on the state you live in and when you signed up for Snapshot.

Progressive FAQs

Founded in Mayfield Village, Ohio, in 1937, Progressive has been in the insurance business for more than 80 years. You might be thinking that because the company is quite old, it might be somewhat laidback in terms of technology.

Not so with Progressive – tech-savvy individuals will find the company rather appealing.

Progressive has a decent reputation for dealing with policyholder’s claims. According to statistics, relative to its size Progressive has had fewer complaints to state regulators. The insurer also has average consumer satisfaction ratings.

So, you should feel confident that if you do have a Progressive car insurance claim, it will be handled as efficiently as possible.

Progressive offers car insurance services and products throughout all 50 states. However, you should bear in mind that minimum car insurance requirements vary from state to state.

Progressive will offer the basic minimum for each state and some add ons. This means that some product features or services may not be available in all states.

Progressive is one of the largest auto insurance providers in the US. This insurer offers a variety of coverage options and there is a long list of discounts that could bring down the cost of your policy.

You can also customize your policy with add ons including pet injury protection, gap insurance and deductible savings. This allows you to create a policy to suit your specific requirements.

Like Progressive, Allstate offers coverage across all 50 states with various coverage options and additional extras. However, Progressive has a long list of available discounts which can bring down the cost of your premiums. Allstate has a reputation for average prices. While there are some discounts, it is neither the cheapest or more expensive option.

On the other hand, Progressive allows you to customize your policy, while remaining one of the most cost effective insurers on the market. So, in most cases, Progressive is likely to be your better option.

As with Progressive, State Farm is considered one of the cheapest insurers in the US. It offers low rates for good drivers and competitive rates if you have a less than perfect driving record. However, Progressive offers a wider variety of discounts and add ons that allow you to customize your coverage while offering highly competitive prices.

Additionally, Progressive has an excellent reputation for dealing with claims quickly. So, overall Progressive is better than State Farm for most drivers.

Progressive has a decent reputation for offering customer support and dealing with claims. Additionally, it is available in all 50 states, which may give it a slight edge over Nationwide. However, Nationwide is considered one of the best insurers at dealing with claims quickly and efficiently.

Nationwide also offers a variety of policyholder benefits and provides access to annual policy checkups, so you can check your coverage and that you’re not paying over the odds for coverage that you don’t actually need. This means that Nationwide may be the better choice for you compared to Progressive.

Like Safeco, Progressive operates across all states. In fact, Progressive is one of the largest car insurance providers in the USA. However, while Safeco has an emphasis on providing great deals for younger drivers, Progressive offers great rates across the board.

Progressive has a long list of discounts and there are numerous customization options such as deductible savings, pet injury protection and gap insurance, which makes Progressive a more flexible choice in most cases. So, unless you are a younger driver, you are likely to find Progressive is better than Safeco.

Travelers offers similar products and features compared to Progressive. While Progressive does offer slightly better customer support, Traveler policyholders review the company positively for its claims handling process and are more likely to renew their coverage.

Although Progressive is well regarded for its affordability, Travelers is also considered to be the more affordable option for basic coverage. This is particularly true for younger drivers who are more likely to save money buying Travelers coverage rather than Progressive. So, while Travelers may have the edge over Progressive, it may be worth getting a quote from both companies.

Methodology

Our expert review team gathers data from many auto insurance providers in order to create rankings and estimate rates.

Financial Stability: We analyzed each company based on industry benchmark ratings (summary table can be seen under “customer satisfaction” section) . Although insurance marketplaces do not have financial strength ratings they can still be useful tools for drivers who are looking for premiums at competitive rates. If you are looking for an insurer that doesn’t underwrite your policies, be sure to check the rating of the partner company.

Coverage: Which types of insurance are available, their maximum coverage limits and any add-on policies. We also consider exclusions that are applicable to certain drivers.

Cost and Discounts: We review auto insurance rates estimates for many drivers across every state. The best scores are awarded to companies that offer lower rates and have many discount options for car insurance. You can lower your insurance premium by qualifying for any driver discounts.

The discount percentages offered vary depending on where you live and some companies restrict the amount of discounts that can be applied to your premium. We looked at the discounts offered in the various companies that we reviewed. Many allow you to combine different insurance policies to save on premiums. There are many savings options for drivers shopping for car insurance. These include discounts based on the type of car, profession, driving record, and other factors. Companies that offer a variety of options could lead to a lower premium for drivers were favored by us.

Customer Service: We review customer feedback and reviews from J.D. Power. Data such as market share, complaints to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners for private passenger car insurance (2021) and overall ratio of those complaints to the industry average.

In order to provide accurate and neutral information to our readers, our expert review team collects data from dozens of car insurance providers. Vehicles used include the 2017 Hyundai Sonata, 2017 Toyota Corolla, with annual mileage ranging from 10,000 and 20,000. We analyzed five credit tiers (excellent, good, very good, fair, and poor) and four types of people in different age groups. Lastly, we divided drivers to 4 categories based on safety history: Clean driving records, one at fault accident, one speeding violation, and one DUI.

We took into account parameters such as companies mobile apps, advanced online services, and telematics make it easier for auto insurers to respond to consumer needs. Many providers offer support via phone, email and agents. Some even offer live chat and 24/7 support via phone, email, or mobile app, while some provide social media responsiveness during weekends and after-hours hours.
